A slightly sweet and tangy sauce made of strawberries with a spicy kick.
One of my favorite flavor combinations for sauces is sweet mixed with tangy and mild-spicy. If blended correctly, this combination can really wake up the taste buds. Since strawberries are perfect this time of year and provide lots of great flavor and sweetness, I like to mix them with the intense heat of habanero peppers and the rich, complex sweetness of thick balsamic vinegar along with hint of fresh lime juice.
I use a mix of fresh strawberries and strawberry fruit spread. The fruit spread gives the sauce plenty of sweetness and helps thicken it as well. If you really want to make it very spicy, use two habanero peppers, but be warned it will be very HOT.
When working with peppers as spicy as habaneros, I recommend wearing gloves. You need to cut them open, scrape out the seeds, and then dice them, and if you don’t wear gloves, at least be sure to wash your hands right after working with them and keep them away from your eyes.
This is a different sauce and not like anything you can buy from the grocery store, which is why you should try it!
