A question I am asked quite often is, how do I stay in shape even during the holidays. It’s simple. I don’t change my eating habits, they remain the same, and I make sure I get at least 10 minutes of physical exercise in addition to my daily Chef and Baker’s exercise. Once you’ve developed these habit, maintain them and you won’t have to wait until the New Year to start eating and being healthy.
Here are some of my suggestions to help keep you on track and avoid packing on the pounds.
Be mindful - Don't eat more than your regular servings. Just because it's the holiday, it doesn't mean you have to overload your plate.
Avoid second helpings - Many times we eat impulsively because the food is laid out infront of us; conversations is flowing then suddenly we decide, "oh I'll have some more of this or that".
Buffet away from the dining table - If space allows, set up the food in a different area - kitchen island/counter top. Guests can serve themselves then move into the dining room. This way, they are not tempted to "graze' on more food.
Stay hydrated - drink water! Often times, thirst is overlooked with hunger and we make the mistake of eating instead of drinking.
Balance - staying hydrated, portion control and going for a walk after a big meal will help you to feel pleasantly filled, content and satisfied rather than sluggish, uncomfortable and regrets of eating too much. The idea is to keep a routine during the holidays; sensibly sized portions, limit alcohol intake and have a wonderful time.
Cheers!
