Amazing Apple Crisp

Apple crisp is one of the easiest and best fall desserts ever. Fresh sliced apples are topped with a buttery cinnamon, ginger oat topping that tastes divine with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt.

Serves: 8-10

 Ingredients:

5 cups fresh golden delicious or gala apples, peeled and sliced ½ -inch thick

¼ cup brown sugar

¼ cup granulated sugar

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon ground ginger

¼ teaspoon ground cardamom

1 teaspoon almond extract

 For the Topping:

½ cup all-purpose flour

1/3 cup old fashioned oats

2/3 cup packed brown sugar

¼ teaspoon kosher salt

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Pinch of ground ginger

¼ cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted

 Directions:

1.     Preheat oven to 350 degrees, F. Butter a deep-dish pie plate or large baking dish.

2.     In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with the sugars, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and almond extract. Mix to coat the apples evenly. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.

3.     In a medium bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Pour in the melted butter; stir with a fork or use your fingertips until the mixture is coated and crumbly. Sprinkle the crumb mixture evenly over the apples.

4.     Bake in the preheated oven for 45-60 minutes, until the fruit is soft and bubbly, and the topping is golden brown.

5.     Cool slightly then serve with vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt on top.

6.     Enjoy!

Chef’s Tip: If your topping is starting to get too brown but your apples still need more time to cook, simply place some aluminum foil loosely over the top of the dish and continue baking.

  • Chopped pecans or walnuts would be a delicious addition to the topping.
